Sew And Tell Friday

I have been busy and my kids have been happy :) They love it when mommy creates for them... And I do too. I have so many ideas that I am starting to not be able to sleep at night, lol.

I put the Etsy shop on vacation last week. Figured that by closing it, I could focus on the kids and creating for them instead of feeling like I had to put the shop first... It must have worked because I haven't created this much new stuff in a LONG while. I will photograph the kids in the outfits better and use the photos as examples for the shops, but for right now, I am just enjoying making stuff that I know is appreciated and will not sit in a closet or in a plastic tub waiting to be worn or played with.

I really don't know who was more excited, chipmunk or cheetah! I haven't made cheetah a whole lot of clothing, but I will now. He looks so cute. I have to draw/trace up the next size up for him though before I make another jon-jon... This size JUST fit him. I made a total of three outfits for him and four for her so far.... Let the sewing take off!

Starting My Own Photo Studio

Well, the photographer in my is coming out. Why should I pay someone to photograph my creations when I can do it myself? I mean, I am the one that knows what I want to be shown of my creations, right? In high school, I wanted to be a photographer and took classes upon classes and was the Photo Editor of the Yearbook my senior year. I know a little about photography, it's just getting the stuff that is needed, you know?

Well, when I took some of my stuff to a local photographer, it got me to thinking, why not try it yourself? So I have set off to DIY it! lol I bought some grey fleece at the store last week to try it out. It's really not enough, but I was able to find some black in my abundant stash! Now I just need to get some lighting. I used the little lighting that came with my light box today to try it out. I know that I need more. I also have to do this when chipmunk and cheetah are not so excited. Cheetah kept getting into the shots and chipmunk was all wild.

Anyway, I got a few good ones. I need to find brighter lights and get a better camera, but it's a start... Now to get some models other then chipmunk and I will be all set! lol I tried to use cheetah but he just wanted to roll around.

Day of the Week Snap Clip Covers

I had the wonderful opportunity to get to test drive sewing these out this week. They really were quick when I didn't have chipmunk and cheetah vying for my time :) I mean one cover took less than 10 minutes to stitch out!

Anyway, I did this assortment that you see trying to get an idea of color schemes to put in the shop. Of course, most of these colors came to be because it's what I had in my house, lol.

I know that I will do the Red, White and Blue scheme, because, well, we are a military family.

I also know that anything pink and brown or blue and brown will sell.

But what other color combos would YOU like to see out there?

I know that I can do the standard white with any color, but come on, when have I ever been a standard white anything?

I know locally, I am going to track down the elementary school colors and do assortments in those colors since the school district is just about ALL uniforms.

I am looking at offering these without the snap clips so that the buyer can decide what way the clip needs to go in and you can have essentially 1 clip to keep up with and then the covers. I like the idea of interchangeable.

Jumping in FEET First?

My youngest daughter turned four on the twenty-eighth of last month. Yesterday, she had her dreaded four year old well child appointment. I had been on the fence for a while about wither I should try to put her in the public school system next school term, or just keep staying at home and home school. I even posted a status on Facebook on Tuesday asking some of my questions for some of the homeschooling moms I know to give me some answers.

Well, I finally made up my mind. I am going to home school Chipmunk and Cheetah!

And I will officially begin by the end of the month.

But the funny thing is... I have already been "home schooling" her :) It's just that I will make more of an effort to do so.

I am not making a long term commitment to homeschooling, we are going to take it year by year. I am becoming more and more not one to conform to educational societies thoughts on how things should be, so our school year is going to center around chipmunk's birthday. I am not going to tell her that she can't learn about something if she shows an interest just because there is a paper somewhere that states what she should be doing either. I guess, I am going to get to teach her how I think that every child should be taught: at the level they are at, not where someone else THINKS they should be or where I WANT her to be.

I am kinda excited about all of this! I get to do all the stuff that I loved about being in the classroom with out the principal and school district hanging over my head. For now, anyway. When she turns 5, I will have to be more held accountable for keeping up with what we do and all, but we will have had a year to grow together. And cheetah will have an even bigger head start!

Now, if I can only get over this cold... Off to take a nap and then look for some great recipes for playdough and other science projects!
