Happy 2011, a little late, but still

WOW! It's been a really long time since I have posted on here.... Nearly a month to be honest and I am posting from my husband's netbook in the kitchen/dining room! So much has happened and is still going on too, that, well, I just haven't had the time to post like I would like.

I was thinking the other day when I actually got a chance to take a bath (not a quick shower, but a sit-in-the-tub-and-relax bath, TMI, I know) that I wished that there was a water-proof computer that I could have sitting next to me so that I could post more. Well, either that or a computer that I could link to my mind so that I could write blog posts, and listings and such.... Then I decided that it wouldn't be all THAT great because there are some pretty unusual thoughts that go through my head that I don't really want to share with anyone... Might get me thrown in a psych ward or something.

Anyway, the holidays where good. I actually closed up the custom part (pretty much the whole thing) of the shops the first week of December and I set out to sew for my own family this Christmas. DIDN'T happen! But that is because we got the shop finished!!!!!!! And the week before Christmas, I was moving into the new self-standing studio.... Only to figure out that I have more fabric then room to store it in (storage space that is) so I am looking to getting in there and making a bunch of stuff so that I can have room for more fabric.

***Hi! My name is Christie and I have an addiction.. It's called fabric, notions and ribbon.... I am not allowed to go to craft stores but once every couple of months and my kids roll their eyes when we head to Walmart because they know that I will end up in the fabric department with a cart full of bolts... To be honest, there are a few workers there that turn the other way when they see me.... They know that there are going to be a lot of cuts in thier future. But you should know that someone has an addiction when they can roll a bolt of fabric back together BETTER than someone who WORKS in a fabric department. (observation of my son one day while in the store) You also can tell who has an addiction by the way the department workers know her ON SITE and ask about her kids........

Anyway, this month's weekends are stocked full of someone having something to do, but I hope to get back into a groove and start posting more often. I stopped the features of the week of other shops because, well, no one was responding to the posts and I felt it wasn't fair to the features!

So, leave me a comment so that I know that I am not just entertaining myself writing these posts. If I don't get a response, I don't think that I will stop the blog all together, because, well, I like to talk but I am a shy person when I first get to know people so this blog is my outlet to speak up.... (My sister and brother will tell you that I am a chatter box, but I beg to differ. But then, why not, I am the oldest in the bunch!)

Here is to a GREAT 2011.... I'll write later how our last week of 2010 went for the family.......

Mother's Day Ramblings

So, it's easy to say that this week has been very trying on me in one way or another. The week started off Sunday with a birthday party cook out for an aunt on a side of my family that I had not seen in 6 years. It was good, made me remember some good times of my childhood that I had nearly forgotten but also opened a wound that never seems to heal.
And there is where part of my downfall began.
I also came to the realization that I can not depend on my grandma to remember a thing she says about money. A month or so ago, she told me to sell the long arm quilting table that she had bought for me and to put it towards my business. Well, she came back to me two weeks later and said that she was going to sell it to a friend of hers and I took it over to her extra room that was built for her when she moved in with my parents. Then she comes over Friday to get the instruction booklet and stuff for it because she found someone to buy it from her. And she is getting paid by them quilting two big quilts for her! Yeah for her, but I was planning on that money! I learned my lesson, the hard way. I have started selling off my supplies that I can easily replace when my sales start going up. I can not replace my fabric, I get a deal on it and it takes 4 months to get it after I buy it, so the high dollar stuff is not going to get sold. Plus it's worth more as inventory in my shops than sold in a destash. I did list some material that I has bought and really didn't know what to do with it in the first place, but no one is in the buying mode I guess.
Then I also had a rummage sale today of all my teaching supplies. Four people showed up. Four. But I made $90 that I didn't have before, we got the storage shed straightened to the point of when I go to do this again in the summer right before schools start, I will know exactly what boxes go out and what boxes to keep in the shed for me. And I found a bunch of craft stuff that I can use for things to make, so that is a plus too!

All this leads me to tomorrow and Mother's Day. It's actually a day that I dread. Until I met and married Tony, it was not a good day for me. Tony went and bought cinnimon bread to make french toast in the morning! We will spend some time next door with my mom, my brother and his family and my sister-in-law's parents as it is her birthday too.

All I want to do is crawl into a hole.

But I will get up in the morning and finish some work and it will be a good day.
